10:32 Late Friday Night (20 February 2009)   The Good, the Bad, and the Shoot-Me-Now Caleb proposed. !!!!! it was a week long affair, and since this is my diary i should probably write something about it. I have been so slack as of late...just moping around doing nothing, especially nothing that i should be doing. So...I'll go on with some rarrdy rah ness, like how I am meant to be giving a presentation on 2 articles on Eutrophication on Monday with a grad student from China (she's really awesome though and has done a lot more work on it than me which makes me feel really awful and even more slack and a terrible partner). also I have to write a response paper for them...and have barely even started (I have for the most part read them, but have not at all worked on the paper). The Soil Chemistry homework is KICKING MY ASS - I am just not awesome. I was hoping this class would be fun and interesting...and sometimes it is but at other times I just wonder how on earth it applies to the rest of soil science as a whole. rarrr the first soils class i've ever been truly frustrated about (I was occasionally frustrated in soil genesis but at least that made sense). Anyway, the homework was due on Thursday and i have not yet turned it in. Good side: My teacher is really understanding and will let me email it to her this weekend. The rest of my classes are going relatively smoothly, though I do have an exam in tox on Monday. SIGH! And in the last two or three weeks I've been hardout practising for Belly Dance because Krys choreographed a duet for us and we've been working furiously to polish it (and, frankly, to learn it) since our performance is tomorrow night. But yeah. Last week Caleb asked me to marry him, and it was wonderful. On Monday, he gave me various papers that detailed certain aspects of our relationship throughout the evening - we went shopping (I sat in a section that I could be amused with while he shopped by himself), then he treated me to Happy Sushi, and we went home and watched WALL-E together. On Tuesday, we baked muffins together and he presented me with a couple of more papers about our relationship. Then Wednesday I was busy with homework, but Thursday we went shopping at the Korean Supermarket in town , and while I was at belly dancing, he made me curry for dinner. When I got home, he had me go upstairs and change into a formal dress while he finished up the curry. Then he led me downstairs and through the basement's master bath which he had decorated with red candles, and through the bedroom down there, which had been decorated to look vaguely like a forest, and the "uber fancy restaurant" made its American appearance in the form of a jerry-rigged table (a folded card table propped on overturned empty cat litter boxes covered with a table cloth he found lying around) with a small potted succulent centerpiece. We had sparkling cider (he hates champagne) and our curry, and for dessert we had my favourite kind of frozen yogurt. Then he blindfolded me and had me stand still, and when I was allowed to take my blindfold off, he was kneeling in front of me asking me to marry him and presenting me with an engagement ring!! I was absolutely shocked -- I knew it was coming but I thought he was going to drag it out until at least Saturday, so I was genuinely surprised. It was a really sweet and romantic proposal...and my ring is absolutely amazing! We had looked at a lot of rings and were about to buy one when he found this one and I fell in love with it. Engagement Ring I'm extremely excited to get married, too. We're thinking July 9th but are waiting on his family to acquire flights. So ... life's been hectic but...good overall. as soon as one thing "ends" another begins.
