Sooo getting a roommate for my new condo....

The search began on KSL when I posted the ad on a Tues. Of course, its best to have the ad up over a weekend, I suppose esp the weekend before the end of the month.... And by Mon I had like three people/appointments planned to come over that night and take a look and fill out applications.

Of course, the flaky people on ksl, if you get multiple ppl to commit to something usually only one prevails. Such was the case on Mon night. One who made an appointment like the day of the ad posting to come by that night and picked up an app and never heard from her since. Another asked to come by on Wed by never showed up, I texted and no reply.... she wanted to come again on Mon. She ended up texting saying she found a place already. Another one attempted to find me and got lost, tried to call me, but her cellphone died and didn't hear from her until the next morning. Thus, leaving one to show up at my door.

Her name is Cassie. She first asked if the room was available, I said yes, then she asked if I'd consider a small dog.... Now I didn't really think of pets except to say in the ad that I had a cat in case anyone hates/allergic to cats. My first reaction was no, it juss seems like so much work, and an inside dog I thought about that with Max and its so hard and dogs can't take care of themselves like cats can, and I got brand new carpet, they are noisy and bark all the time, etc. But I didn't want to rule her out completely cuz of a dog. So I said why dont you come over and bring the dog and we can chat. I needed her to explain how she does the whole potty training thing while she's at work an' stuff...

Even Mindy said she'd come by and see my place for the first time, but yet here is only girl that showed up, Cassie and her dog Bella. The cat didn't care for the dog. Juss followed it around and watched it in the shadows. Bella didn't care either. So that was a good start. Bella followed lots of commands and stuck to Cassie like glue. And Bella did not bark once the whole time she was in my house. Not one word. Weird, but okay, I like it. My persception of little dogs are they are super yappy.

I showed her the house while Evan watched TV downstairs. We kinda stopped upstairs and asked questions. She told me she puts the dog on the tile bathroom while she's at work, said she's close enough to come home at lunch and let her outside to potty, and she' the kind that takes her dog everywhere. She's a working professional, a secretary for a landscaping company her uncle owns in Draper/Sandy area? She has a boyfriend in Clearfield. She's 20 years old. She's from Monroe. Yeah, I know, right?

I gave her an application and she wanted to fill it out there so we went into the kitchen and let her fill out stuff at the table. The dog still following her and the cat still following the dog and hiding in the shadows... The application raised some more questions and then after that we just started chatting. Okay, well, she started chatting. She really knows how to carry on a conversation...for like two hours. I've never really met anyone who could carry a conversation on that long, it would be more impressing if she could do it without any akwkward pauses or moments, but that didn't happen. She seriously acted like she didn't want to leave. I don't know why. She's definintely a chatter, unlike Sarah. She wanted me to tell her she could have the place right then and there, but I was going to give the first girl a chance and the one that got lost that night a chance too... She just needs to find a place by the first to give her current place a 30 day notice.

So some things about Sarah bugged me when I was living with her but she wasnt really around enough to actually be bugged by her too much. She would ask permission to do -anything- in my house. That got annoying. She was super respectful but to an annoying point, I didnt think that was possible. And then the fact that she wasn't really reliable, said she'd come over and never did, said she'd pay and never did, etc. Then the ignorance claim kinda drove me nuts to. "I didnt know rent was due on the first", we discussed and she signed it on the contract, she paid on the first all the other months, etc. When she moved out she 'thought' I told her to be out by the 28th of Jan, but I said the 31st.... She doesn't know directions for the life of her either. I was helping her find another place and she said she wanted to be in the same area or more north, closer to her work. So I found the perfect place by 215 to help her get to work, not that she'd know how to use 215 freeway, but she thought it was too far north or something and didn't check it out so I made the appointment for her and took her there myself to show her its not far and it was a good place for her. I'm proud of myself for that by the way.

So you think of the quirks of the ppl you are or will be living with and I can tell there will be some quirks to this Cassie girl that will annoy me at times, but its comes with the territory an' all. Its just from that super long conversation with her I can already pinpoint some things that might annoy me about her in the future already. Kinda sad. I think of something nice to say about her and immediately a negative thought follows. I think I am only so pessimistic about this for the simple fact I'm not too keen on sharing my new condo in the first place...

But she is really an articulate girl, she's smart, she's confident with talking to ppl. I was impressed with the way she communicated with me via text. She set up an appointment, she repeated the appointment near the end of the convo, she actually showed up for the appointment, she knew the right things to say, the type of issues I was worried about, she followed up the next day with a text. It was like an interview. She knows how to do this.

This is going to sound wrong but the annoying part I see so far is that she is so ... LDS. Molly Mormon as some Utahns would say. She asked if I was LDS and I said yes and she said she thought so b/c I had put "no smoking or drugs" in my ad. I wanted to explain that I didnt want to put "LDS Standands" cuz it puts off those of other religions who also dont smoke or do drugs or drink or whatever. Others think they can't live there if they are not lds. She kinds gave me this, I would say judgmental look, and said "I dont mind when they put lds standards on there" cuz obviously she is looking for someone LDS to live with. I immediately thought this girl was somewhat closed minded. There are other girls out there that basically live LDS standards without being lds. Sarah, my last roommate, for example. She was Catholic and she prolly drank coffee, but she wasn't a party girl, didn't do illegal things, didn't smoke, etc and she was like the best roommate ever. Mainly cuz she was at her boyfriends all the time, but still.

I'm afraid she might be the kind of girl that freaks out if a guy gets anywhere near her room, the kind that would speak/rationalize excessively if her bf had to sleep on the couch during a bad snow storm he cant go home in, the kind that would give judgmental looks when Evan comes into my room to watch a movie or something, one that never wears a tanktop. Oy. The possilbities annoy me even more.

I think its almost sad that I know how religious she is only by talking to her for like two hours on a first meeting basis, but I mean you are supposed to talk about it and not be ashamed and what not, but I think there is a limit or ...something socially acceptable that doesn't involve statements like "then I went home and read my scriptures all day long" and "you should come to my ward, the relief society president is so funny" blah blah. But then again if I werent so bad at being a mormon this prolly wouldn't bug me so much. Its prolly my fault I'm annoyed.... Its prolly my fault she talked so long, maybe cuz my text said "come by with your dog and we'll chat". The darn word "chat".

BUT you do have to admit the whole Utah - Mormon bubble - Sterotype is totally real and stupid in this state. Its not just the born and bred Utahns that think the bubble has gotten out of hand. Its a statistical known fact now.

I feel like when I was in SLC and Sarah showed up cuz of my ad I chose her cuz, well, she was the only one brave enough to come to that part of the neighborhood and live with me. But now I'm in Midvale and seems like I got a lot more interests in this condo, which I should, but with all like 5 ppl that were interested somehow I still end up with only one person actually showing up... I want at least one other girl to look so I could at least say I have a choice. So I'm giving this one girl that got lost one more chance to look before I give it to Cassie and Bella. Love Bella by the way and I dont like small dogs, mainly for the yappy, but also for the possessiveness of owners an' stuff.

Anyways, enough about roommates I dont have yet.

In the meantime I am still putting my house together. I got out my big box of pictures and frames and realize that I dont want/wont use half of them. Sad day. I am so excited to decorate walls. WALLS ppl, I have WALLS! Then I realize I have no pictures that I can hang on my way with family in them really.... I have no family photos that can be hung on the wall. Sad day. My picture collection is not as 'thought out' as I thought it was. I have my favorite and most expensive art/picture in the middle of the front room where you can see it. Bonita! I can't seem to fit anything else on that wall .... I put my giant Jesus picture up just before Cassie came over. I have cute ideas for the stairwell wall. I bought a Groupon for Wall Art vinyl art stuff so I can buy another tree like I did at Mindys and put it on the stairwell wall.

I got all the furniture I want so far I believe I only wanted to add a "console" table, a bookcase, and a storage bench and get rid of a "tv stand" whatever it is, a smaller bookshelf/nightstand thing, a computer cart and the vanity. I kept the rest of my furniture and only added those three to actually fill up the place.

I bought new carpet for the whole condo, about 90 yards for $1,500. I bought a brand new washer/dryer for $1,300, but with the rebates from the gas and electric companies technically $1,200. Then cuz I spent so much on carpet and washer/dryer I totally compromised on the fridge and got an old used one for like $180. But I did get the fridge I 'wanted' in a way. I wanted a side by side with the water and ice dispenser thing, but my fridge area is so small it was hard to find a side by side small enough, but I did! It's used and kinda off white but it works! My goal was to spend less only three grand on the major appliances/essential things I can't really live without and I did it. I put down 7 grand and left 3 grand for the major appliances and fix up stuff and I stayed in that budget. Then I spent more on those other furniture items I mentioned, but that was just for my pleasure.

Soo so far the condo living is going great!

I also went and got condo insurance the other day. I don't need "home owners insurance" cuz the HOA has that I just need insurance for the 'content' of the condo, not the condo itself... So the agent I found says 'If you take the condo and dump it upside down, the insurance covers everything that would fall out" Haha I thought it was funny. It wasn't called 'renters' ins tho. It was under home owners ins, under condo ins, some subsection after that... Anyways, this agent guy knew what he was doing and did it fast. I was impressed.

I went in for that condo ins and asked if I put my auto ins in with the same company if I'd get a discount and he wanted to do such and find out. I dont know many ppl who walk around with their auto policy on them so I asked to use a computer and print it up from online for him. So he combined my auto and condo ins and found a company that would be cheaper then my current one. Woot woot.

He was beginning to say I couldnt combine the two (at least to get cheaper rate/discount) until I was 25 and then I said my bday was in like 6 weeks. So we hooked up the condo ins now and when I turn 25 I'll combine that policy with my auto and get somewhat of a discount. That felt all complicated and took longer than I thought, but I think he got me the best price he could find out there.

So I think I'm on my way! I think I got this covered! Me, my condo and a cat! Well, don't get me started on the cat...
