Unaffected-Chapter 6

Feeling: chaotic

The rain was cold on his bare skin and the lightning stuck on the ground inches from him. He looked over his shoulder and saw the jeep coming down the road. His eyes found the alley and he ducked into its safety. His eyes followed the jeep driving past and he felt a chill race through his body. He ran his hands over his cold arms and slowly looked down the alley.

He sat up in bed immediately and dug his hands into his head. The pain was worse than before and it made him almost puke. He looked around the room and saw the sunlight coming in through the balcony. His eyes narrowed and he tossed the covers aside as he got out of bed. When he looked out the curtains, he found the beach down below full of people already.

His head calmed and he looked at the clock next to his bed. He had a few hours before the meeting, and that gave him time to look around more. When he walked over to the bathroom, the phone rang on the table but he left it. He turned on the shower and looked in the mirror. Then he hopped into the hot water and let the soreness leave his body.

When he was dressed for the meeting, he grabbed his jeans jacket and placed a recorder in the right pocket. Then he picked up his phone and put it on his belt. His eyes checked the time and he left the suite.

Her eyes followed his gaze and the swiftness of the pen as he wrote her co-worker's words down. When his gaze met hers, she held her tongue and glanced at the window.

Her co-worker tapped her and asked, "Cami, you plan on joining us any time soon?"

She looked at the woman and said, "I'm listening."

The man looked directly at her and then she heard her co-worker say, "I guess this is all. Thanks for coming."

Then the woman stood and Cami watched the man follow her departure out the door. He looked back at her and she got to her feet. She walked over to the door and then she looked back at him.

He met her gaze and she said, "You haven't changed."

His eyes narrowed and she left the room. He put the recorder in his pocket and picked up the information.

Then he looked out the window and his jaw tightened in thought.

'Who is she?'
