Weathered Chapter 16 part 3.

Listening to: What If-Creed
Feeling: jealous

She knocked quietly on the door in front of her, but still no answer. With one last hope, she turned the doorknob and the door swung open. At first she remained still, but then she entered the room. Everything looked as if the room had remained closed up all day and no one had been in it. Her eyes looked for any sign of his whereabout, but she found none.

Then she left the room and made her way down to the lobby. When she stepped out of the hotel, she looked around downtown, but still failed. He had up and vanished again. With a sigh, she turned to the east and headed to the club. After Billy's phone call she knew she had no choice to but put Amy on an assignment.

As she walked to the club, she tried to think of a good assignment and how to bring it up. True she had lied about everything to Amy, but she was only trying to get the woman to slow down. Several assignments were available for her, but the woman would do them just out of routine. Mags sighed and found herself in front of the club. With a deep breath, she walked down the stairs into the club.

The instant she saw Billy, she walked up to the bar. He nodded to the back room and she readied herself for an ugly encounter. When she stepped into the back room, she found it empty and her eyes narrowed. Then she spotted a small light beam coming from the far end of the room and she walked over to it. She stopped when she found Amy leaning against the wall looking straight at her with her arms across her chest and a killer's look on her face.

She shook off the cold chills and asked, "You up for another job?"

The woman looked slightly away and said, "Actually, I'm up for all of them."

Mags let out a sigh and said, "That's good to hear. I have a couple I'd like you to look into."

She returned a cold look and said, "No problem, boss."

Then she walked to the door and Mags asked, "What happened last night with you and Terry?"

Her feet stopped and she said, "Nothing that doesn't normally happen between two people that use to know each other."

Mags sighed and asked, "He left again?"

She opened the door and said, "Whatever you say."

Then she left the woman standing alone in the room and walked back to work. With new assignments calling her, she knew she'd need some time off of work in the club. She looked at Billy and he smiled a hopeless smile.

Then he said, "I already know what you really do as a profession. If you're leaving tomorrow, you can expect to come back to a job when you get back."

Amy smirked and said, "Thanks, Billy. I appreciate it."

He nodded and said, "Gotta keep you anyways. We'd lose loads of business if you disappeared from the payroll."

She wiped down the bar and said, "I'll need tonight off in order to get out of here on time first thing tomorrow."

His smile brightened and he said, "Anything for you, Honey."

She let out a sigh and made her way around the club setting up for the night. It was going to be packed, but she didn't have any time to work the crowds. She had somewhere to be in the morning so she had to spend all morning preparing for her trip back to headquarters. When she finished sweeping the floor, she checked out and left. The sun was low on the horizon and she walked to the docks.

One last look at what she actually still understood before she left again. One or two assignments don't take more than a week, but she's got more than that. This time she won't be back for at least a month. When she stood looking at the setting sun, she felt its last heat warm her body. Then she closed her eyes and felt the wind run over her body.

Finally she was ready to get going and she turned to leave. As she walked through downtown, she studied the layout of the town and improvements from over the past years. When she reached her room, she unlocked the door and slipped inside. She hung up her jacket and let her hair down. Then she turned on the wall light and froze.

He stood in the middle of her room staring at her and she could feel her blood race and boil. Then she walked past him and grabbed her bags. It would be good to see how he'd react to her leaving. She packed one bag of clothes and took the other bag to the bathroom. It was left on the sink table for packing in the morning.

Then she walked back into her room and saw him waiting for an explanation. Her brows tightened and she told herself not to say a word. If he thought he could just show up after leaving her alone to wake up from the previous night, he had one thing coming. Then she walked over to her bed and pulled the sheets back so she could get some sleep. His arm wrapped around her waist and he spun her around.

His body was mere inches from hers and she managed to said, "Let go of me."

His eyes remained dead and he asked, "Leaving again? Without letting me have a chance to talk about last night?"

She shoved at his chest and said, "You don't deserve one. Now, get out of my sight."

He seemed to soften and said, "I might not deserve one, but you'll give me one anyways."

The words broke her control and she said, "You've got ten minutes."

He lifted her chin up and said, "Last night, was the best night of my life. It terrified me beyond anything I've ever experienced."

She listened and he said, "Things have changed both of us over the years, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't remain close."

Now it was her turn and she said, "You were the one that disappeared. I've got a right to have nothing to do with you."

He smirked and said, "You sure didn't show that last night."

She felt some heat in her cheeks and said, "I wasn't talking about last night. I was talking about....never mind."

Then she looked at her clock and said, "I'm leaving first thing tomorrow and I need to get some sleep."

His eyebrow went up and he asked, "Where are you going?"

She shook her head and said, "It doesn't matter where I'm going. Now, just go home."

He tugged her into his body and said, "I am."

She was about to question him when his mouth was on hers again. All at once her body came back to life and she felt herself drift back to ecstasy.
