[52.] Making love to your memories.

Jamie opened the door to reveal John. “Hey, sexy, you ready to go?” She hated when guys called her sexy. She faked a smile and replied, “Of course.” Her hair was tied high and straight, with a white long-sleeved shirt and dark jeans. Her makeup, she hadn’t looked this way since Shawn and her… she pushed the memory of him away. John drove her to the movies; he put on the type of music she despised, remembering singing with Shawn in the car; the summer days she wishes she could bring back. She swallowed her tears down, trying to have a grand time, pretending to like all the sweet talk John gave her. Pretending that John could make her forget… just for one second. If he could do that, that meant there was proof of God; proof of hope, of miracles… of anything. Her mind was distracted until they reached the movie theater. They both stepped into the cold air of the dark room, which lightened when previews of upcoming movies played. John chose where they sat, then seated himself down, smiling at Jamie in a deviously infatuated way. He stared at her back end as she sat down. As he held her hand, she unconsciously pretended he was Shawn. Then, the expected happened, he leaned his attractive face in to kiss her. Her eyes looked into his, but nothing matched the sparkle in Shawn’s. “What am I doing?” She asked herself, not long before she ran away, and didn’t stop the whole way until she got there.
