conferences and birthdays 2.21

2.32 p I just got back from the leadership conference that went down this morning. Not a lot of people came but what was really important is that all the Oak/Elm girls were there. I think we needed to hear about being good leaders and communicating well, since we don't really. The keynote speaker was really good, he talked about how leadership isn't just the leader dictating what to do. It's about everyone pitching in, it's leadership, not just a leader. Then for the first breakout session, I went to a lady that talked about transferring from college to career, what you need to know how to do. She was a great speaker and the topic was good for me, even though after I graduate, I'm still going to be going to school, vet school that is. Then we had lunch and that was good because I got to chat with a lot of different people. The second breakout session, I went to Gary's talk about communicating in the workplace. I love Gary, that guy's great. He's a really awesome speaker too. He's just stinkin cool, no matter what. Today is somebody's birthday! Happy Birthday to my new special friend Jace, who turns 19 today (you youngun!). Speaking of birthdays, my mom's is next week. Yes, it's true, she actually has a birthday this year. We are going to have a huge blow-out of a party, the dream party of every 14 year old girl. I'm going home next weekend for Leap Day and also to see my grandma. No new news on my grandma, it just appears that it is like an "internal bruise" on the right side of her brain behind her ear. Basically, it's like there is blood pooling there but it's not getting bigger and there's not really any surgery that they can do, just wait and see if the body soaks it up (like when a bruise goes away). It's scary but she should be out of the hospital after the weekend. I think that's what's going to happen at least. It's hard to tell because my dad won't really call me about it unless it's necessary. My mom's the one who would just call me with little updates, but she's leaving tomorrow morning for Long Beach and won't be back until Friday. Wow, I've been kinda all over the place with this entry. Now I must go all over town and run some errands (Hy-Vee, Borders, anywhere else my heart desires) before I settle in for the night with my organic chem book. Seriously, so scared for the test on Monday. I know nothing! Start praying now! I'm gonna need it! you know you love me ;) happy birthday again to jace!

Glad to hear your Grandma seems to be doing better. It is also nice that you learned how to be a better leader yesterday, you really needed the help.
