A Good Friday

If there's one thing I've learned, it's that you need to be able to laugh about anything. This isn't fueled by anything in particular, it's just an idea that I try to keep in mind. I find it particularly true on a college Friday night at fo-twenny in the AM.
Pomona is nice. People here say I have a very distinct laugh. It's because I actually say "hahaha."

Word of the Day: alienist
Penelope was born on 22 November, 2008, at 10:04 PM. Once again, I was told earlier in the day that I had a UTI [which is what happened to trigger labor with Patrick, but I think I really was in labor but just a little dehydrated], and, once again, I gave birth without the help of pain medication. Not by choice, but because there was just no time. They sent me home to rest, but by the evening, my contractions were worse than before and we decided to just go back to the hospital. We got there around 8:45-ish, and Penelope was born at 10:04. It was agonizing, but also very short, so I wasn't much bothered by the labor after the fact. And now, the most important thing:
Very first picture.
On the scale, the reading is 7 lbs, 1.5 oz.
The nurses were so unprepared that they didn't have the scale in the room nor did they have anything to write her stats down on, so they jotted down the time, weight, and length on a paper towel. She was 7 lbs, 2 oz and 19.5 inches long [though they first measured her at 18.5 inches long].
Penny, meet Mommy.
Daddy and brother Patrick.
Pretty eyes.
Close-ups of Penelope while in the hospital.
Chillaxing at home in her bassinette.
One of my favorite pictures of Patrick when he was in the hospital, for comparison. |

Listening to: my 3rd period talking/working
Feeling: tired
SERIOUSLY. So many things had not happened yet.
1. Somehow, I passed student teaching and graduated. I spent the summer lazing about and trying to find a job.
2. I found one. I teach Spanish I and III at Ware Shoals High School, and I love it. Most of the time. When it isn't making me tired, which it often is.
3. I have a cute apartment, which is often messy thanks to the addition of my beautiful little kitten, Kiley. She is probably terrorizing some furniture as we speak. Silly kitty. At least she's litterbox trained and actually likes me, unless I'm punishing her for doing something she knows she's not supposed to do. She gets mad and runs away from me for a few minutes but she always comes back. It's nice to have a cat that walks towards you and not away from you when you come up to it. |

Listening to: Out of Nowhere- Charlie Parker
Feeling: jocund
As I consider Art History/Curatorial Studies, things to bear in mind:
Redux is hiring for Summer 08. Need to drop off my resume over winter holidays.
The High Museum in Atlanat is also looking for interns. Their website has updated information availabe in January!
Smithsonian has an abundance of internships for undergraduates, the just-graduated, and graduate students. Fabulously good news!
And the reach-internships are at places like Centre Georges Pompidou, Jeu de Paume, L'Orangerie, the MoMA, the Whitney, the Metropolitan Museum of Art,the Guggenheim, the New Museum of contemporary art, Fusion Art Museum, Cooper-Union Hewitt, deYoung Museum, the SoMA, and the Drawing Center (this is rotational... a plus!). Some are paid, other are unpaid/volunteer.

Listening to: frank sinatra- i've got the world on a string
Feeling: achy
oh, college.
so, i'm 21 now. november 10th, that glorious day, has passed, and i can get my drank on. i am still yet to go to the bar (legally). i keep making plans to, but then get too drunk off whatever i've bought at state liquors before i get the chance to actually go. but oh well. i've had too much god damn work to really find a proper time anyhow. plus, few of my friends are 21, so there's a limited group of people with which i can/ would like to go.
recently discovered juicy campus. it's a terrible thing, but beautiful at the same time. i searched myself and was sufficiently pleased to find me listed under "most intriguing individual" and "nice people." makes me feel good. but then i see where other people are getting ripped apart for this and that, and that sucks. because if and when they find that, it's going to make them feel really, really bad. i've decided never to look at it again; i'm happy with the current "juicy status" etched into my mind.
i can't wait for thanksgiving break. i really do love my family.
i really need to clean my room. it's completely trashed right now. smells a little funky. blech.
last night kara and i got high and drove around worcester as we so often do, and we listened to frank sinatra, as i'd just gotten a new sinatra album and it's all i've been able to listen to. kara brought up an interesting point.
"if you were frank sinatra, would you ever have thought that in sixty years, college girls would be driving around smoking pot and listening to your music?"
no. no, i never would have thought that. oh, the mysteries of the world. |

So today I called Sarah up to see how she and Liv are doing while they're in Georgia. While we were talking, Sarah put the phone on speaker so I could talk to Olivia. I started saying "Hiiii Oliviaaaa" and then I heard "Dadad!" That's pretty much the highlight of my day. |
